You know it never fails. Every year it seems, or maybe every other year, there's a new movie out about the holocaust. This year's entry is The Pianist. And you can expect it to do a clean sweep when the Oscar nominations come out. Because that's the way it is.

I'm not complaining, oh no. I'd never do that. Not in this town. And you can't get any more moving than a holocaust survivor's story, so, really, I'm all for it. I'm just saying A lot of my friends and I are convinced Spike Lee didn't win an Oscar for that documentary he did on the four little girls in Birmingham because there was a Jewish Holocaust story in the mix and, yes you guessed it. It won. Now I didn't see that documentary. As a matter of fact I didn't even know it existed until it was called right along side Spike's joint, and immediately I knew. His film didn't have a chance. 'Cause that's the way it is. Not always, but most of the time.

I think it's interesting that their pain is examined and re-examined over and over until the humanity comes oozing out. The pain of the African holocaust and Diaspora, well, who's heard of it. We don't get to examine our pain. In fact we're told to ignore it by everybody, black, white, whomever. Forget it. It's not important. That was then and things are better now.

Oh really? Things are better now for us black folk? Did you know that the gap in earnings between whites and blacks is about the same now as it was just before the turn of the century -- the 20th century that is. Men are still being drug behind pick-up trucks to their deaths. But I guess it is better since I can sit right next to my oppressor at the expensive restaurant in town. Of course I'll be upstairs out of the way if we're dining at Crustacean or in the back somewhere if we're at, oh say, Monty's. But yeah. Things are better.

I can spout off at the mouth about my views and what I think, and if I'm lucky enough to get some media attention, I'll be covered by one of the five major media gatekeepers in this country, one of them owned by an Aussie. And isn't one owned by the French? I can't remember now. Mexico has the right idea I think about not allowing foreign ownership of land. Remember when those retirees got kicked off their beachfront properties down there and were sent crying back to the States? Yeah, I think that's fair. Oh you don't? Well just consider it payback for all the cheap labor that country provides to us. Man what a payback.

Hey, Have you heard my theory about this oil fight that Bush has his knickers all knotted up about? I say we all go buy electric cars, take advantage of whatever rebates they've got going and -- viola. No more high demand for oil. Oh no! What's a son of a bi--- I mean former president who stole his job going to do? What legacy will he have to leave behind? George I feel for ya, bro. But God don't like ugly, and neither do I. And in 2004 you got to go.
